I’ve listened to interviews from the pilot of the helicopter and read others in which the test explosion was pretty big and scared people but Landis insisted the one on film would be even bigger.
It delaminated the helicopter blades and caused the crash which in turn killed three people. And it was done due to Landis being reckless as frick on several things.
