what are your thoughts on this movie, its on netflix watch instantly and the previews made it look good along with a good review by rotten tomatoes. Do you think its worth the nearly 3 hours of movie time?

One of the most boring movies I have ever sat through.

Now, in a minute all the Terrance Malick nut suckers will come out and talk about how visually stunning and symbolic it all was, and all that may be true. But is still boring as F$*K

Don't let them dissuade you. It's my favorite movie. It is far more than just a war movie but the action is still good. The character conflict is also very good. You should definitely watch it, you may be surprised at how much it may affect you.

A Bridge Too Far
Where Eagles Dare (action/spy thriller)
Bridge at Remagen
Kelly's Heroes
Stalingrad

Those are a few that can satiate a WWII themed action urge. I still recommend The Thin Red Line but it is definitely more of a cerebral film than action.

Wow - so in the same day...Drive and The Thin Red Line suck threads.

If some of you thought those two sucked - don't ever see Valhalla Rising and The Tree of Life respectively.

No, I literally fell asleep. Critics may love it but it bored me silly.

Report back when you do.

There's a religious theme to one of the character relationships so "catholictigerfan" might find that an intriguing aspect of the film.

One of the best war movies I've ever seen.

Captures every part of war from every perspective.

Extremely well shot, and extremely arduous and full of itself.

I loved the film, but I'm a big Malick fan. If you're looking for an action heavy WWII flick then no, this one probably isn't the one. But I would recommend seeing it when you're in the mood. And I second the recommendation of Where Eagles Dare. That one is a very good, action heavy WWII film.

This right here. You have to have the right type of mindset going into Malick films. A lot of people might find The New World boring because there's no dialogue for 1/3 of the movie...and it's 3 hours long. Personally, I think it's incredible and watching it on blu ray will blow your mind.

Not a WWII movie but 50 Dead Men Walking is a good movie about "the IRA during the height of the Northern Irish conflict".

Ben Kingley is great in it as well as Jim Sturgess & Rose McGowan.

Copland is a good cop movie. Probably Sly Stallone's best movie.
Also has Harvey Keitel, Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Peter Berg, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Patrick, Michael Rapaport, Annabella Sciorra, Cathy Moriarty, John Spencer, Edie Falco and more.

My favorite movie ever made. I listen to the soundtrack daily. My father (WW2 bomber pilot) said they captured the thoughts that go through their minds perfectly, especially regarding the soldier with his wife that left him.
