The way the show went from totally ignoring the virus to it becoming an intricate part of the plot was sort of awkward. Makes me think there wasn't much foresight as to how they wanted to take the show.

They didn't need to think about the virus until Mike got it. I didn't think that was awkward. They hadn't seen anyone sick in years.

Forte has said they write the show fluidly as the season progresses and they change and adapt as it progresses. They have a rough outline, but they keep options open.
