It's not bad I view it as a Sequel to Vikings itself.
Ubbe is Ragnar Lothbrook's son.

The series may reinvigorate me to finish all the books. Cornwell owns historical fiction.
Books are incredible. Cornwell is among the best writer of battles I've ever read. And unlike some fatass authors, won't mention names, he puts out a new book almost every year. He started in 2004 and The Flame Bearer is due for Oct release. (Unfortunately it takes a few months for it to release to the US)
Uthred is mostly a dumbass, but he is a genius in battle which is basically what he was born for. The show has done an excellent job portraying him in his early years as well as his contant struggle with the need to remain loyal to the Saxons while loving everything about life as a Dane. Uthred and Alfred have such a complex relationship in the books, which hopefully transfers to the series. Can't wait for the 2nd season and for Flame Bearer to drop.

I read the books a long time ago. I started watching the show, and my dumbass realized it was an adaptation only until halfway through the second episode.

Yeah I really hate Odda the Younger.
Alfred wouldn't be bad looking if he ate meat rather than gruel/wasn't so gaunt looking (which is the point of the character though anyway).
I want to read the books now but I read some spoilers about Uhtred.

I feel like we are getting different things out of this show

Read them. They are closer to Dunk and Egg than they are to Song of Ice and Fire. Lots of battles, love interests, and very little food is talked about. I think I read the last one in 3 days and it wasn't stay up all night reading. Who knows, by the time you finish all of them, Winds of Winter might even be out!

After he finishes these books, he should forget A Song of Fire and Ice and read the Warlord Chronicles.

I know I know.
I'll have to start reading them soon. How many books are there??
And is Uhtred as frustrating in the books as he is in the show? I wanted to bang my head against the wall when he ran into the prayer and started yelling, knowing that he was going to screw himself over

He is pretty dumb except in battle.

I've gotten that vibe from just 8 episodes
.
And he also seems to want a new woman all the damn time. Not gonna lie, I was happy when he parted ways with Brida.

Frick Brida. He was much better off with his wife and the psychic chick. Still bitter about the wife, but I guess I should have seen that coming.

I agree with you baw.
I thought he had good chemistry with Mildrith.
