I've had the Hills marathon on in the background all weekend...I don't know how the new show will live up to the original (it can't, let's be honest), especially without Lauren, but damn will I watch it live.
My youth is tied to that show.
The biggest issue I will see is that when you're in your late teens and early 20s, the drama and relationships and friendships seem like the biggest deal of all time, but, in reality, it was mostly just young and dumb and had innocence to it.
When kids and divorces and marriages and careers enter the picture, and shite actually gets real, it's more depressing and less purely entertaining because you know the stakes are bigger and moreover real. No matter how they play it, it won't have the same impact.
But I would imagine a huge chunk of the old audience will give it a chance. MTV it seems is now kind of a channel for Late Gen X and Gen Y folks who grew up on their shows. I don't think teenagers watch the channel, or cable for that matter, enough to matter to MTV anymore.

I feel like all of us in our late 20’s early 30’s grew up with Laguna beach /the hills/2-a-days

I will watch it. I may be too old to old to enjoy watching what I thought was real and unscripted drama

I wish they’d do a Laguna Beach spin-off but Kristin lives in Nashville and I’m sure some of the others don’t live in the area anymore. They’d need to have both her and Lauren on it.
I saw the preview for The Hills spin-off but watching it without Lauren just isn’t the same.

Can’t wait to see Spencer. That guy is TV gold!!!!!

No LC or KC. No thanks.

You forget how off the rails the show got after LC left. Kristen is good, but the show totally shifted from "girl trying to make her way in Hollywood" basically to Days of Wine and Roses with millionaires.
They didn't even really feature anyone's job the last seson or two, (probably because everybody knew they were kind of shams anyway at that point and the cast was banking off the show alone) but Spencer really becomes much more of a clown and Brody becomes a main character.
Add that to Justin Bobby out of the picture and it didn't have the drama just never felt as real again. Still entertaining, but not the same.
New show will probably hav emoments, but I'm afraid it's just going to be the Heidi and Spencer show... Which I was never a big fan of unless they were around everyone else.

Adding Mischa Barton is the only reason I'm semi-intrigued by the revival. Without LC at the center of the show it won't be the same. But Mischa was borderline A-list back when the rest of them were C/D list reality stars. Her perspective of Hollywood is way different than theirs.

Spencer is the only reason I watch it. I’m surprised him and Heidi are still together.

Heard an interview with this cast and she either just sounded so out of place with everyone else or is a horrible interviewer. I’m definitely going to watch but I’m curious how they will mesh her in with the rest of the crew on the show.

Will also have Brandon Lee added with Pamela Anderson (his mom) cameos.

Apparently Brandon Lee and Brody are friends... Random... Kid is like 15 yrs younger than him probably. Maybe they just needed someone young on there to draw in another audience.
I don't think the Mischa Barton thing is going to work at all.

Agreed. I think this is their attempt at finding a female lead to replace LC and Kristin, but considering she's never been a part of that circle before I don't know how it's going to go over.

I am too.
The show definitely won't be as good as the original. I just want to tune in for a little nostalgia.

Will my girl Lo make any appearances?
Posted on 6/24/19 at 7:27 pm to mattz1122
I think I read that Lo basically swore off reality TV forever...kind of said it nearly ruined her life and was in therapy for years afterward.

These kids are broke and looking for money, this show WILL tank...
