Does the movie answer any/all of these questions?

No, It is completely one-sided from the activist point of view. Boo hoo , Flipper committed suicide because he was in captivity. I'm sure the cows and chickens we eat every day have it so much better.

I have to agree with this. I don't agree with killing dolphins at all, but until I give up eating pork, beef, etc., I should probably keep my mouth shut about it.

Exactly, we harvest cattle and chicken by the millions like plants. I don't care for the slaughter of dolphins either, but at least I realize my hypocricy when I drive through KFC.

holy crap...

ok, comparing them to chickens and cows is retarded. Since when does 99.9999% of the US not eat chicken and beef? Since when does chicken and beef have so much mercury in them that you could get poisoning if you eat them? What do they do with all that dolphin meat if nobody eats dolphin in Japan then?

It's all very sickening. But I won't give away the whole movie here.

You think cows and chickens are cool with being slaughtered because they wind up getting eaten?

what does that have to do with the dolphins?

You think if chickens were poisonous to be eaten and no one at them in the US, and they were being mislabeled as another meat...people in the US would be ok with tons of them being slaughtered by being stabbed and left to bleed out?

We breed cows and chickens to be harvested for their flesh, and I fricking love it. But if you cant see why killing dolphins in nets with spears and knives isn't sick and unnecessary then you are crazy. The Japs don't keep the population steady, they simply kill until there are no more dolphins.

Who gives a rat's arse if Japanese people get mercury poisoning by knowingly and willingly eating whale and dolphin meat? The only actual bad thing that the documentary pointed out was that they mislabeled dolphin meat as whale meat in the supermarket.

It's the Japanese culture, leave them alone. If the Japanese came out with some study about how crawfish suffer when they are boiled and they are high in fat which in turn leads to a greater risk of heart disease, are you going to stop eating crawfish? No, you would tell them to STFU and mind their own damn business.

It's a stupid animal, people care more about a frickin dolphin than a suffering human being

it's all well and good until the dolphins all disappear and all you're left with is a few fishbowls with "so long and thanks for all the fish" etched in them..

Obviously, you don't care about "suffering human beings" either.

Did you even see the mangled bodies the mercury poisoning caused? "Willingly", yes, but in what way did the documentary show those kids (or adults) as "knowingly" consuming dolphin meat with 100x's the mercury content?

Here's the real answer:

Even though they are edible "mammals", we don't eat dogs, cats, or horses here.

Flipper & his "smile" make him as close to an ocean pet we have.

That's the main reason we don't eat dolphins, and that is why the 1972 Marine Mammal Protection Act made dolphin meat taboo here. Most sane countries have agreed.

If this was a documentary about the black market horse meat trade in Mexico, or brutally killing dogs in East Timor, and selling the meat for money, this board who be horrified.

Maybe Japanese people should wake the hell up and stop eating dolphin!!! Then they wouldn't be poisoned!!! Don't you think that if chicken, beef and pork poisoned Americans at the same rate the dolphins are poisoning the Japs, we would do something about it?

I find it hard to believe what I am reading. Because horses and dogs and dolphins are cute that should make them exempt from someone's dinner plate?

If you all really think these dolphins are treated so horribly, you should try and watch some slaughterhouse videos. Cuz you aint seen nothin.

Then why do they get lured in the same cove every damn year?

I guess that's why I cry every time I have sex, because I certainly am not doing it for fun.

Part of the problem was that they didn't know that they were eating dolphin. The product was mislabeled, and in addition to that, it didn't show the outrageous levels of mercury present. Most of the Japanese interviewed first denied the possiblity, then were appalled that dolphin was actually being sold in Japan on the market.

Exactly.

Otherwise, horses, dogs, cats, and dolphins are actually a lean means of protein nutritionally. It's a mental thing with civilized cities/countries in that they don't want to see Rover or Flipper whacked over the head or speared and then served on a plate. So much so, they have made laws making these horses, dogs, cats, and dolphins taboo to eat. And rightfully so. Thus the outrage.

I've seen slaughterhouse footage of cows, and chickens. They are still quite tasty, despite the gory footage. First time I saw a cow's throat slit, I couldn't eat dinner that night. But I got over it, especially since I like my steaks rare-to-medium rare. Not sure how long it would take my stomach to acquire a taste for one of my pets though. I hope I never have to.

If you did a little research (that means independent from TigerDroppings), you'd get your answer.

Everything this guy said is right on. This movie is absolutely ridiculous. Blatant, one-sided propaganda. Michael Moore tells a more two-sided story than this crapfest.

It's not illegal to kill dolphins. It's not illegal to eat dolphins. I don't even know why the Japanese try to hide it from Westerners. They can do whatever they want with the dolphins. It's probably delicious. If I ever go to Japan, I am going to eat an entire dolpin. I want to go to the dolphin buffet.

First "Flipper" commits suicide because she's so sad that she's in captivity, which is hilarious to me....and it gets worse from there.

As far as the mercury poisoning, the cause is the industrial waste that is dumped into the waters. BUT NO ONE IS DOING A DOCUMENTARY ON THAT ARE THEY? Nope...dolphins are cute, so I could get an oscar if I get people to cry about them. This world is f'ed....we'd rather cry about whales and dolphins than solve any real problems.

Also, if you eat tuna, tilapia, or frozen crawfish often, chances are you would test positive for mercury. Where does your frozen seafood come from? If you're not checking before you buy, and you buy the cheap bulk packs at wal-mart, you are buying chinese, mercury tainted fish.

Too bad Wal-Mart doesn't sell dolphin.

Let's just make sure about something since you haven't mentioned it:

You've seen the entire film and not a 5-minute clip on youtube?

People in Europe eat a lot of horse. Are they not civilized?

Also, laws can't make something "Taboo" only hippies can.
