Saw in theater when released and watching it again for the umpteenth time.

Such a great movie.

Pacing
Action
Story
Soundtrack
Tension

All top notch

Book was so much better. They removed a critical 1/2 of the plot for the movie.

No it wasn't. I hated the Bourne books.

The original trilogy was great. But it had too many roots to untangle from 'Nam and Carlos.

The movies were a good way of any time modernizing it.

Minimal in this one.

Supremacy almost gave me motion sickness.

Never considered it a spy movie.

Totally agree ... but that applies to all of Ludlum's books compared to the movies that were made.

My favorite Ludlum books are The Materese Circle and The Road to Gondolfo. Then comes the Bourne series.

I learned to speak Italian reading Ludlum books ... still have a few of them like Un Nome Sensa Volto (The Man with No Name) and Il Circolo Materese.

ETA:

The books are great, but most people would have no context because they would not know how Carlos the Jackal was.

Ilich Ramerez Sanchez ... he was THE terrorist of his day. Venezuelan I believe. I remember in Italy when I was living there and he was said to be hiding out with the Red Brigade. Our little post was on high alert for about a month.

Best movie ever made about him was Nighthawks starring Sylvester Stallone, Rutger Hauer and Billy D Williams.

SEVERELY underrated movie.

Easily one of Stallone's best performances.

The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth was also a good book.

Actually the Richard Chamberlain, Jacklyn Smith version was truer to the book than is the Damon abomination.

Still, the best spy movie ever made, at least imho, is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Best spy music too - it's not even close. The entire cast was incredible.

After that I'd go with ...

Three Days of the Condor
Dr. No
The Good Shepherd
Eye of the Needle
No Way Out

... that's off the top of my head. There are others including a couple of Hitchcock flicks like Notorious and another one that escapes my memory at the moment.

Heck, I like Mission Impossible better than Damon's Bourne.
Heck, I like Craig's James Bond better than Damon's Bourne.

Fred Zinnemann's 1973 movie is a classic! Highly recommended ... can't believe I forget about that one. I may try to find on Amazon or Netflix. Saw that in college at the theater and started reading all of Forsyth's books afterwards.

Watch the last one. Your mind will be changed quickly. Unless you are an idiot, then go watch the new Grinch movie. Shark says it’s cinema perfection.

Edit.. Damn it, went and re-read your title. OP might be right, but the series ended with the viewer needing a lobotomy.
