The highlight for this season for me will be Christian talking robotics for 3 hours during that individual immunity challenge and driving Alec crazy to the point he gives up. Also a sidenote: When you're down to the final 4 and you've won immunity, why the hell do you let everyone know who you're bringing to the final tribal? If it were me, I would say I'm completely undecided until the last minute and and have them beg and downplay all their moves in front of the jury. See if they're dumb enough to destroy their own games in front of the people who they will need on their side in <24 hours.

the okie-doke on the editing here is pretty transparent. Mike basically saying he gives up. Kara making fire with pure ease while Mike lays around in the hammock.
I don't think they intentionally mess with the outcome, but my wife brought up that that they gave Kara a faulty piece as someone else mentioned here. Tough to fully deny with Jeff specifically telling them which seats to go to the way he did. However, I'm not buying it.

At the very beginning with the live shot of the castaways, I saw the way Nick was grinning ear-to-ear and excited movements, I told the family, he's in the final 3. His poker face was bad.

How often do you think Probst says "first things first" in real life?

I wonder how long this show can go on. I think this was one of the better seasons so it's not stale. Any ideas on things they should change? I've always wished they'd have an immunity idol under water pretty deep instead of always on the land in trees/etc...make it more of a challenge to actually get it.

I want them to do a season with all survival experts. Minimal rice but tools to hunt and forage.

Kara was hitting the wrong side of the fire flint for half the time she tried to make fire, she said it on the post game interviews after the show.
That combined with her blowing way to hard when she got a small flame going, and blew it out each time.

That reminded me of some improvements they made this year in the final show:
They didn't make that silly "memorial walk" with the final 3 walking around the island and gathering up torches (or whatever). AND
They spent less time talking to people (usually a celeb) in the audience.
I still would like more interviews with the contestants from Jeff at the finale.

I have been binging all the older seasons lately that I never saw, and the memorial walk is just boring TV. Although when binging seasons everyone is still more familiar than watching weekly.
They definitely focused a lot more on survival early on. I just finished Cook Islands and Ozzy was going to be voted off except he kept catching fish. Current seasons he would be gone quickly as a threat.

Definitely would like to see things go back to more "survival". I always go back to season 1 when they ate rats to survive. and as you said they kept ozzy because he caught fish. and in this season angelina was willing to give up the fishing gear for rice. they didn't want to have to work for food.
no more reward challenges. or at least only a few spread out over the entire season.

Season 1 Richard's main asset was catching fish. Providing kept him in to the end.

Even with all the tweaks and new twists, the game ultimately comes down to the people playing it. A good cast of players in a game with a lame "twist" will always be better than a season with a boring cast in a true survival game. What sets Survivor apart is how excellently they choose the cast every year. There have been some duds, but more times than not they assemble a great cast. I wish Big Brother would be as good at that as Survivor is.

Yeah, its the personalities that make the show. I know that is an obvious statement, but its true. That would exclude me from ever being chosen. I even bore myself. I'm excellent one on one, but the speech at the end...never. And I'm a loner. But, we remember the true odd balls on the show. I know a few people that would be good on survivor for their personalities, and I have told them they need to send in a tape. At one time I thought they should go back and make it a true survivor show....but you would end up seeing a lot of people laying around complaining about hunger, tiredness, etc.....like naked and afraid. I think they may have struck a good compromise with what they do.

then they could get off their arse and got fish.look for coconuts or other food. having food handed to them just makes people lazy.

The cast definitely makes the show, but I do enjoy a mix of survival and competition and gameplay.

agreed.
i mean the first 2 seasons were the best IMO. they had good players and they actually had to survive.

The first seasons seem so out of place compared to today's game.
I mean, in season 1 the 5th place guy went all season voting in alphabetical order and then the overall winner was decided by Greg's 'pick a number' vote.
And no immunity idols or secret advantages definitely led to a more pure game.
