Has anyone read these books? I'm about to finish the 2nd year and its one of the best things I've read in a long time. I can't put it down.

Overly simplistic synopsis: Super hero training in a college environment.

Not sure that I can. I'm not a comic book reader or anything like that but the story is a coming of age story that centers on 5 kids who have recently gained some control over the powers they were born with. They are sent to a college for a secret major program that is filled with other kids with powers and covers their training, education, as well as learning how to drink and be social, mature as a person.

Is this a comic where people who die actually stay dead?

Are they written for 12 year olds like the Percy Jackson books?

I don't know if I could handle something like that again.

Nope. at least I don't think so. It deals with some pretty complex themes.

is it just a select few that have these powers and get sent to this school?

sounds like a more mature harry potter type. some are wizards (powers) that go to a special school to learn and grow (hogwarts). i imagine its more mature than that series though.

definitely going to check it out as ive been toying with a similar idea for a series.

eta: how many books are in the series?

Dammit. Harry potter. Exactly what i could have compared it to.

Here's the deal: In this world the books take place, only a small percentage of the world's population are born with super powers. similar to Xmen. Only a smaller percentage of that are born with some control. "Powereds" can't control their ability and are thought of as less than human. "Supers" can control their ability are better than.

In this world 5 schools have Hero Certification Programs that are available only to supers. The five main characters have procedures done to increase control of there abilities, bringing them from powereds to supers. They are accepted to one of the schools that offers the Hero training.

The first book is like 5-6 hundred pages i think. the second is around 900 and hes writing a third currently.

ETA: because its one of those independent publisher things through amazon its cheap, but there are a few typos here and there.

i noticed that in the reviews. seems like it was horribly proofed but they have an update from last year saying they brought in a professional editor.

didnt realize it was kindle only. this is my first contact with a "kindle exclusive" series with no hard copies. very interesting. i wonder how those agreements work.

I've read a few of the Kindle Exclusives. They really have some good stuff in there, especially for how little you pay per book. For the last few years I have only read off of my kindle, phone or computer screen so it really didn't affect me.

Finished book 2. Gotta say, it's pretty awesome.

I can't understand why a publishing house wouldn't buy it.

I think I'm going to wait for 3 to be finished before jumping in to it.

Yeahhhh.... I'd advise that. I caught up and started reading a lot of the fan made writings which are pretty good. Book 3 is going to be longer than book 2. He's at 103 or 104 chapters and he hasn't even gotten close to the mid semester exam yet.

I emailed the author and he's written genuine responses to every thing I've asked him. He told me the story line with Vince and the gang will end after 4 years unless he decides to a spin off of some of the lesser characters.
