Even if Qui-Gon was unaware of the extent of the Sith threat, he thought that Anakin was the one the prophecy spoke of. He could sense that Anakin was extraordinarily strong with the force (something Lucas stupidly felt he needed to emphasize by introducing midichlorians), and it seemed that he was virgin born.
He turned out to be right, anyway.
ETA: "Balance" simply means that there are no Sith in the galaxy. They were believed completely destroyed, but there was no complete evidence.

Anakin did bring balance to the force.
Before him, there were WAY too many Jedi, only like 3 sith. He evened the odds, by the end there were only 2 on each side.

that sounds like an explaination Lucus would come up with, how is balance the complete elimination of one side?

I'd really like to see this guy's review of The Revenge of the Sith and Anakin's transformation to Vader.
I can't believe how spot on that dude was about the plot, character development, the light saber duels, sterile scenes, comparing it to Ep. 4. About half of it was "why do it this way when you can do it that way", which I think could be done it a lot of movies.
I think he nailed why the first two movies were so good, because Lucas didn't have all the control he wanted and had to listen to so many other people.
P.S. Anyone else think this guy is the squid from Futurama?

It made perfect sense to me that the light saber duals in the original trilogies were kinda simplistic because you had first two older, past their prime guys that hadn't swung a saber in 20 years then later one of those guys against a kid that didn't know much what he was doing.
What about Yoda and his light saber battle? he was flipping all over the place.

I think his main points about the lightsaber duels was that the first ones were so good because of the emotion, intensity and drama of the scene. The focus wasn't the actual duel.
In the prequels, Lucas focused so much on having a ridiculously awesome looking fight, that he forgot what made the first ones good. Flips and swings and awesome locations wasn't what made the first duels so good, it was everything else going on besides the duel. He is spot on about the RotS duel. It is boring.
The prequels lack any sort of emotion and drama. Which is easy to understand. How much can the actors add to the scene when they are carrying out a choreographed "dance" in front of a blue screen?

I don't think this is billy west lol. But yeah, he does use a goofy voice. It's some guy named Mike from Milwaukee.

Not only that but how can there be any suspense when the main characters have their fates predetermined (at least by the eyes of the audiences.) We know the fate of Obi Wan, Anakin, Yoda the Emperor. How do you get engaged in the story if the actors have no script to work with?

We're talking about Jedi prophecy here. The Jedi believe that the light side is how the force exists in nature, and that the Sith corrupt it.
Destroying the Sith purifies the force, therefore balancing it.
