hey have been referred to in the original trilogy, and that completely clashes with what we were told in the prequels. Seriously, listen about what Vader says about Obi Wan, and it's clearly not the same thing that happened in the prequels. The context lies in the subtleties. If you are to take their words for it, it's clear they had an Xavier/Magneto relationship, in that they constantly talked about the nature of the Force. Instead all that happened was they insulted each other and Obi Wan let Anakin burn alive. I can see why Vader would be quite pissed at his mentor years later, and may have not been up until the moment of their final duel.

Dammit this thread depresses me just thinking about how awesome the prequels could have been in someone with any sort of storywriting skill's hands.

A relationship similar to what you mentioned would have been incredible and fit so much better than this spoiled brat who was tricked into being the galaxy's most menacing serial killer.

The Dark Side should be something that slowly overtakes you as you get drunk on its power. Once Anakin touches it there should be scenes of him visibly in pain trying to resist its pull. I think it would be awesome if he used the powers of the Dark Side once or twice to save someone like Obi Wann and being conflicted with the power it gave him but also the dark thoughts it put inside of him.

It could have been so awesome but instead they just made the damn thing a Michael Bay film with lightsabers.

I thought this even when I was 15 when they came out. How could they have fricked it up so bad?

Anakin's turning dark could have been one of the most epic character developments of all time.
