Am I supposed to believe Chewie was just eating random people?

I believe he would fight for survival but the scene implied Chewbacca was eating other prisoners.

I didn't interpret it that way. I viewed that more as let the wookie win if you have to because your fricked if you piss him off. Not as let the wookiebwin because he's too dumb to win on his own.
