The Wrestler was ten times better than Slumdog, as was Milk. Hell, I thought Frost/Nixon was a whole lot better than Slumdog.

Crash - 2005: worst "best picture" of this decade.

spoilers
I finally got to see Slumdog last night. I liked it - solid 3 out of 4 stars, but it won't be very memorable for me. I think it's for 2 reasons:
1)this deal about destiny being a big facet of Indian culture. I don't believe in destiny and it just doesn't resonate with me at all.
2)The Horatio Alger angle. I feel like Americans just casually expect people from bad circumstances to rise to greatness, but the point of the movie seemed to be that in Indian culture, you simply DO NOT come out of the slums and become something. So I guess again it just didn't resonate with me.
Did they ever give the explanation of how he got on the show? They at one point said they were going to and then they didn't.
I thought the good-natured homage to Bollywood at the end was well done.

He knew the secret of the phone system. He mentions it while serving tea at the call center. The commercial comes on and a guy near him calls in but its busy. The main character says "You've got to call when says want."(Or something like that) Since that companies guy also installed the millionaire phone system.
