Went to an AMC theatre Saturday night to see Murder On The Orient Express (which was disappointing, BTW).
In the 45 minutes it took them to finally start the feature, amongst the trailers was ATMITW. If they're hell-bent on replacing Spacey, I can't understand why they didn't bother pulling the trailer that plays him up as the star of the picture.
This is still running in the theatres
It's particularly interesting in that the trailer is edited specifically not to show the elder Getty's face until the final moments. It seems like it would be easy to substitute a couple of shots of Plummer in his JPG makeup and his name in the credits - clearly it would lessen the impact of the trailer (the critical line at the end being delivered by Spacey) but I think more damage to the film's box office is being done by people who haven't heard about the replacement but see the trailer and think, "looks like an interesting flick - wait, Spacey is in it? I'm not paying to see that perv")
I think Scott/Imperative is making a mistake trying to meet that initial release date. I'll be very surprised if this film doesn't bomb, no matter how good the final product might be.
