Long ago, I read that the ID sequel would've been based on one of the ships sending out a distress signal. I guess you could have a movie where the mother ship that blew up was just the scout ship sent to invade Earth while their entire civilization could've been following behind.
But the president saw their thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Always thought a sequel would be interesting but not sure if the time for that opportunity has passed.
I think this movie lends itself to a sequel quite nicely. They could even build in the time between the movies. Interstellar travel takes lots of time, assuming we aren't talking about warp speed. The premise could be the aliens that showed up in part one were the raiding party, the main body of the alien civilization is still yet to arrive.
Meanwhile, Earth is being rebuilt as one, ala Starfleet, reverse engineering the Alien tech. As long as we get another Bill Pullman speech, I'm onboard.
It's not like Hollywood could make this any worse that Transformers 3, and I still enjoyed my popcorn during seeing that in the theater.

You must not be familiar with the director then. I'd put almost all of his films below Transformers 3. The Patriot and ID4 are the only ones that are better.

You dont think Universal Soldier and Stargate are better than Transformers 3?
He's made some entertaining movies.

Never seen Universal Soldier, and I thought Stargate was simply ok, so maybe that was also better than Transformers 2. 10,000 BC is the worst film either of them have made though.
