He was a great talk show guest. In fact it was his Tonight Show appearances that jump-started his career and eventually led to his getting Baretta (for which he won an Emmy)
On the Tonight Show with Orson Welles
Blake and Johnny Carson switch places
One of his greatest performances was as Jimmy Hoffa in the 1983 miniseries Blood Feud. I much prefer it to the Nicholson Hoffa, even if it whitewashes Bobby Kennedy.
