He was in love with Ashara Dane but after Brandon was killed by the mad king the alliance with Riverrun depended on his marrying a Tully.
Right. Married a Tully out of duty. Robb married Jeyne out of a duty to Jeyne to make her honest after getting her preggers.
quote:
His official story even includes a bastard child that may or may not have been from Ashara Dane, yet he married his Tully, sealed his alliance, and won his war
Right, but we all know his official story is bullshite, that the bastard child isn't his, and he swore to keep the secret as part of his duty owed to his family.

basically everything Robb didn't do.
Had Ned gotten a girl pregnant prior to being married to anyone, there is no way he wouldn't have married that girl in an attempt to make her honest. Oddly enough, it is Robb's misconception of his father--that his father raised a bastard child from a relationship out of wedlock--that likely drove him to marry Jeyne.

Both were done out of duty but Ned chose duty to family not to the girl. If Robb had actually "pulled a Ned" as described he would have married a Frey and would still be king of the north.

You think it is bullshite and I agree with you but that didn't stop him from allowing it to tarnish his reputation out of duty to his family.

I'm not sure where this comes from except pure supposition. All Ned's actions speak to the opposite. There is no way to know for sure but if you look at what he actually did I think the evidence points in the opposite direction.
Would Ned leave the girl he loved for duty to family? Check
Would Ned raise a bastard? Check
Would Ned consolidate an alliance, destroy a king, and rewrite history as a conquering Stark? Check, check, and check.

Renly didn't care if Robb took the North and the Riverlands
False. Renly would still be king over all seven kingdoms, with Robb's King of the North title being just that, a title with no weight behind it.

Why change from what was written? Do they consider themselves better story tellers than George R R Martin? Frick this show and its numerous changes from the story. At least give me the right color hair for Rob. I get why they had to age everyone 3 years for the show, but at least give me the right freaking hair color.
seriously
right color hair????
