Sam Elliott as the beat-down widower running a barely sustainable apple orchard with his impoverished two kids. Contemplating sending his 9 yr old daughter to live with the aunt full time. Too many mouths to feed, times are tough. Crazy cat lady, 1989 magic. I have a 7 yr old daughter, and this hit completely different than it did when last saw it in the 90’s. I cried. Sure, I’m a pussy, but Sam Elliott and the little girl that played Jessica reminded me of my daughter. Really, really good movie for those two. Casting director killed it.

I know what you mean. Last year my daughter bought a skyscraper in Los Angeles and it was taken over by European terrorists during their Christmas party. Now when I watch Die Hard it hits home in a much different way then it did when I was a kid.

I remember seeing this in the theater as a kid, and it was one of the movies that was watched a lot in our house around the holidays growing up. I hadn’t seen it in years, and watched it again last Christmas. Still enjoyed it, mainly for the setting & nostalgia. feels like it’s from another time & place completely, like that world doesn’t exist anymore.
