Change a few names and they seriously could have run with that plot without any tie to Batman at all.

It was easily the best show of 2024 to me, for whatever that’s worth. Probably the first time since the early 2000s where I was left wanting the next episode and because it wasn’t just a full season dump, the anticipation kept me wanting more and more.
Semi-spoilers
The ending was still good despite them not being able to add many unforeseen twists. It was a standalone series in its own right, but it still lives in a universe and cannot impact timelines of future movie/show releases.

Yeah I had to back and watch The Batman to see how involved The Penguin was. Helped make sense of a lot of things from the TV show for me. Established some characters who I had forgotten as well.
Show works as a standalone for at least another season imo then you would think he would be too big for Batman to ignore. Would be kinda cool if they did one for each of the villains of Batman either as a prequel to the movie or a follow up like this.
