One of these movies doesn't have the staying power of the other two....

...any chance Cross of Iron is good and was a victim of timing?

Star Wars and the Godfather Parts I & II were not released near each other.

It looks like it probably says "Parts 1 & 2"

It could have been a re-release.

Sam frickin' Peckinpah. Solid war flick that had krauts played by real krauts.

James Mason, Max Schell, James Coburn and David Warner were excellent, as they were in everything they ever did (Warner is still alive, I think.)

Star Wars officially ran for 18 months.

But some people in small towns claim they saw it in 1979.

Star Wars was released in May of 1977 but was a Top 10 grossing film of 1978.

They played the first two Godfathers at a local theater about a month ago in houston. It obviously wasn’t the premier as they are showing both I and II in the pic.

But you are correct, those movies weren’t released at the same time

Theaters used to keep the most popular movies running for extended periods and frequently brought them back as home video was an ultra rare thing in the 70s. If you wanted to see the previous examples you were forced to wait for theaters to reshow them.

Movies like Iron Cross just fell by the wayside as films like star wars, the godfather, and jaws continually filled the seats despite them being released years before.

Im guessing the Godfather was a re-release. They used to do that all the time. You could almost always find a re-release ( especially at bigger theaters).
