Here's something I haven't seen mentioned in either episode thread yet...
The commercial glyphs for episode 1 spelled DOUBT.
The commercial glyphs for episode 2 spelled FAITH.
I must admit... I don't track them while I watch - but their use is another unique element that makes this show great.

Hey, folks!
Just as I did for last week's episode, I will be compiling all the new information we learned about Observerkind physiology/behaviour/society in 5.02. We didn't get nearly as much as last week, but we did get something to chew on.
Let's begin:
-The torture device Etta used on Loyalist agent Manfretti (sp?) - which is apparently called an Angel Device - worked by leeching the atomic charge off the victim, causing them to age rapidly***. However, this particular brand is a Loyalist-repurposed version of what was originally Observer tech. The device's original purpose was to prepare an Observer for the effects of time travel, in the same way that an astronaut or a jet pilot have to undergo G-Force training to prepare their bodies for travel. I would imagine that the Science Team members had to undergo this process as well, as part of their training; however, the Loyalist-brand is fatal, so I'm guessing the original version of the device isn't intended to increase the risks of dying.
-Back in the day, Observers used buses for transit (it was the Resistance trying to blow up such a bus that caused the death of Manfretti's eldest son). I'm guessing this was earlier in their occupation period, since it seems subway trains are the preferred mass transportation method in 2036.
-Harvard University's Science Building has been repurposed as a general laboratory, wherein the Observers are said to be conducting a wide variety of experiments. We got glimpses of three ongoing experiments in the restricted areas. In the first room, someone is lying limp on a chair, their head seeming to have been partially shaved. In the second room, an Observer scientist is monitoring human brains suspended in tubes. And in the third, we see a human head being kept alive without a body (who in this case is, unfortunately, Simon Foster). It's interesting that all these experiments are related to the brain. My guess is that the Observers are keen to study the brains of their distant ancestors, much as I imagine today's scientists would jump at the chance to examine the brains of Neanderthals or earlier hominid species (though perhaps using methods not nearly as arguably extreme or unethical as those used by the Observers).
That seems to be all we got this week, though our picture of Observerkind is becoming progressively clearer. Hopefully, we continue to get these small insightful nuggets in episodes to come.

How much you want to bet the final scene of this show happens minutes after the season finale last year? whatever this machine they are working to build does.. I just have this weird feeling - it's going to correct something in 2012..

yes old school feel, but still CHEAP AS shite
like replicating an eye ball for scanning,
which triggers security for questionable access,
who then uses walkie talkies to communicate,
but never once do they look at the video feed to see someone standing their holding an eye ball at the scanner?

My wife was watching and goes "So they have eye scanners.. but not cameras at the door with eye scanners..!?!"
Only thing I could think of was, the outside of the wall said "Ministry of Science".. and maybe the Observers never thought there was a need to camera up their Ministry of Science.. or just didn't want cameras around the area they did test on Humans.. at all?
That was it though, I figure this season is gonna be a bit wonky, but you can't pick it apart.. we are talking low budget, and a complete change of scenery.. so I'm not too worried.

That would almost be too easy. And whatever plan Walter is putting in motion with "whoever finds this tape" doesn't seem like the type of thing that can alter time like that... More like get rid of the Observers and making it so more can't come back. Not sure if it would be retroactive.
As much as we would all cheer a happy ending in 2012 - I don't think Abrams will let it be like that.

For anyone that still has an trouble with the timeline, here's a good rundown of it:
The events of S5 directly follow episode 4.19, Letters of Transit, which filled in much of the blanks, and the S5 premier gave further context.
The finale of S4 ended in 2012. Bell had been defeated, but had managed to escape. Olivia was pregnant, and the team had caught themselves a break. However, September appeared to Walter to warn that "they" were coming.
Between 2012 and 2015, life was more or less peaceful. Peter and Olivia raised their daughter Henrietta***, and Walter and September worked on a plan to defeat the Observers, who they knew would invade at some point. After devising the plan, September partitioned the plan out of sequence within Walter's mind as a countermeasure against mind-reading; to re-order these fragmented thoughts, Walter would need a Transilience Thought Unifier.
In 2015, the Invasion began, with Observers from the 2600s appearing en masse, transmigrating from the 27th Century to the 21st to escape their environmentally hostile future Earth. Three year-old Etta was separated from P/O, through means we don't yet fully know. A rift formed between Peter and Olivia; Olivia went to New York to take on the Observers with Walter, but Peter stayed behind, obsessed with finding their lost daughter. At some point, William Bell joined the fray, presumably aiding the Fringe team to some capacity. The Fringe team fought valiantly for the next two months, but the Observer forces overwhelmed mankind. Walter sent Olivia to Grand Central Station to retrieve the Thought Unifier, but she was in danger of being captured, so she Ambered herself. Walter and the gang lost communication with Olivia, and thinking the fight lost for the time being, Peter/Walter/Astrid/Bell Ambered themselves to evade capture as well.
The Observers install themselves as the dominant force. The surviving humans - or Natives - were forced to live under a strict regime. Those who sided with the Observers in the Invasion became Loyalists, and Fringe Division was taken over, given the autonomy to police the Natives, but answering to Observer authorities. And a small Resistance formed, continuing to oppose Observer rule. The Observers ruled for the next twenty-one years, and at some point, Etta realized the old Fringe team's members were her relatives, and joined the Fringe Division.
This brings us to the events of 4.19, which take place in 2036. As was shown, Etta used a black market connection to find Walter. With her Fringe Division superior and Resistance ally Simon Foster, they brought Walter out of the Amber. Seeing as his mind was degraded, they re-connected his stored brain tissue to restore his faculties, and they tracked down and freed Peter and Astrid (at the cost of Simon), while Walter severed Bell's hand. In 5.01, they tracked down Olivia, though Walter was captured, and his interrogation degraded or destroyed the fragmented memories September had placed in his mind, making the Thought Unifier useless. And this is where we are going into tonight's episode (5.02), with the plan lost and the team forced to start from square one.
The reason there is a large "gap" between 4.22 and 5.01 is because the story has been told out of sequence. S5 is a continuation of 4.19, which takes place twenty-four years after 4.22. Much of the events that happen between have to be told anecdotally/in passing, though as we have seen in the opening to 5.01, there have been some flashbacks (in this case, the moment of Invasion in 2015).
The jump in chronology can be a little jarring, but hopefully, the above outline will address your questions.

I'm still not sure WHAT abrams wrote on those pages 6 years ago!
it's crazy to think this is where they were heading oh so long ago.. just crazy.. ETA: Reminds me of the way Joss wrote Dollhouse and Firefly - both of those series he started with the end already written.. in Firefly it ended up being incredible, too bad in Dollhouse it ended up being extremely stupid.

So I don't know how I missed it.. but the dandelion from the last episode. The Observer mentioned while he was interrogating Walter that "Nothing grows from scorched earth".. well the dandelion was growing from the scorched earth, just like walter's memories would grow back.. "Doubt" was replaced by "Faith" after seeing the dandelion.

I think if they want to work their way to achieving a "reset" to 2012 - It will require a team member to sacrifice his/herself by going all the way into the Observer future to do it. Walter would be the obvious choice... But Etta would be a good one, too (since she could then be born into a world without impending invasion). Chew on that.

ETA:
I've always thought the glyphs represented the overall theme of the episode. Episode 1 Walter losing his plan, Peter and Olivia's relationship...
Episode 2 Walter regrouping, the Guard seeing the possibility of the tides turning, Etta going against her nature through Olivia...

I think the "fix" is going to be more than just fixing it in 2012 mind you.. I do believe there will be a sacrifice in the end, and I also believe that September will be there.
I think we will see the show end, in 2035 AND in 2012.. both at the same time, with some kind of a realization.. with finally hearing the final words from September, while they finish their mission in 2035.

Redverse for the most part wont be a part of this season..
I'm putting 0 faith in ever seeing it actually, but hopefully we will at least see what happened over there by the end.
