I enjoyed this season but I do want to get back to new people.
Pretty sure the next season is supposed to be another Blood vs. Water... hopefully with all new people. I think a parent/kid sort of thing is what they were talking about... but I don't know that for certain.
Or more likely that's going to be season 42 since they are about to start filming 41.
Apparently Fiji is pretty mild for the 'rona so they still plan on filming starting next week, film two seasons back to back and still airing in the fall/spring.
ETA: Start production next week... it might take some time to get to the actual 39 days of filming.

I thought this after the first tribal council when she first brought it up. It was odd, and I actually thought it was a strategic gameplay. The next tribal council she provided some more context, and it made a little more sense. She had a lot of unresolved feelings for how she was perceived from the season she won. I still think a lot of the conversation was edited out and left out even more context
Yeah that makes sense for sure.
quote:
I can appreciate her view that there is a double standard in regards to how men and women are perceived. I think it's a bit naive to think there isn't. Strong, dominant males that can sometimes be assholes are regarded as alpha males and largely adored. Strong, confident women that can sometimes be assholes are called bitches and degraded.
In society I 100% agree with that of course.
But in the game I do think that is leveled quite a bit. Look at players like Parvati, Sandra, Jenna etc. They are as “cutthroat” as anyone yet widely loved. Russell on the other hand is one of the most reviled, and apparently Ben felt just as ill received.
A lot of it just comes down to personality. Sarah has that almost robotic delivery and persona that a lot of people in law enforcement/military can have, and I think it’s just harder to connect emotionally with someone like that versus someone that is funnier or has a more playful or even mischievous demeanor.
Like I said I honestly don’t remember her other seasons all that well, but I don’t remember disliking or thinking she was a bitch, just kind of forgettable.
quote:
And I think her view on that was based on her treatment after her season; treatment we never saw so it's not completely fair for us to criticize or discount her feelings on it.
I definitely wasn’t trying to discount her feelings about that. I definitely respect the mental toll these players have to deal with one they are back out in the world.
I just don’t buy her trying to attribute those same thoughts or motivations of sexism to the jury in their evaluation of the game, especially when half of them were women, including the one that told her Tony was seen as running the game.
They’re all players in the game and have experienced the real world treatment and I think are able to focus on the game much more than the fans that apparently gave her a hard time after her win.
That part of it just wasn’t convincing to me.
quote:
I've been pretty critical of Michelle this season, but I now see my perception of her was completely wrong. She's a strong player to make the final 3 of an all winners season.
Same here. I wish she would have gotten at least a vote out of respect for making it to the end despite never being with the numbers.
You could see how disappointed she was.
quote:
As for Ben, I didn't buy his making friends deal at the end. There was a simmering hate for Jeremy that pervaded over a few episodes, and I never saw him make much effort to bury that hatchet and be his friend.
Totally agree. And that was after Jeremy specifically went to him to try to do that multiple times.
He had a rough relationship with Adam as well.
Although Adam sucks pretty bad so I can’t blame him there
quote:
I think he just saw no path for him to win, and he wanted Sarah to win if he couldn't.
Right, which again just sucks for Tony, who did more to help Ben than Sarah did imo.

sarah, rants about gender bias but earlier in the season spoke about how people find her "pretty". when all else fails, play the gender card.
She sure did

I always thought that was pretty sarcastic.
She was talking about being pretty and smart and talented while making those ridiculous outfits as Survivor wear or whatever.
I think that was her weird attempt at humor, and she just isn’t a funny person so it came off as awkward

This.
If you go back to early seasons, they showed a lot more of "camp life" where they are all sitting around bored struggling to find something to do for entertainment. I think the whole fashion show thing was just them doing anything other than gameplay for a few minutes.

You have said it before, there is so much we don't see. I imagine it is quite boring most of the time.

Tony was the clear winner and had been for several weeks. And he was a few rope strands from being eliminated.
Natalie was a good player but, the whole EOE thing gives people too many unfair advantages. She got to play the game without the added stress of possibly getting voted out. she had several weeks with the jury members to make friends outside of game play. while those same players were stewing over getting blindsided.
Judging from the reactions, I have a different view on the the format. Most that have posted since last night are critical of Natalie being able to come back from EoE with advantages or that she shouldn’t be allowed back in the game once she was voted out. My take on it though is that the EoE was always part of the game. All the contestants knew after the first vote that EoE was in play and that there would be a chance to earn your way back into consideration for the $2MM prize.
If you break that down, those on the EoE always knew they were still competing, but the odds were stacked against them based on the number of players at the EoE. As things progressed week to week, the odds at tribal council improved as the numbers dwindled, but the odds of winning that one spot back in the game got increasingly tougher as more contestants got to the EoE. One half of the game had the fear of getting voted out . . . the other half of the game had the fear that everyone was suffering through the EoE for only one shot at getting back in (Tyson’s earlier trip back in was pointless as there was no way they’d let him stay that long).
And while the social game at the main tribe is important, the question to Natalie last night about her self-isolation on EoE made it clear that the social aspect of the game continued to be important at EoE. Also, by listing off the many different opportunities that Natalie influenced the main tribe through advantages and disadvantages, she was clearly still an active part of the game. One argument she failed to make at tribal council is that she recognized earlier than anyone else that Tony was running the show and that’s the reason she sent the disadvantage to him.
I give Tony credit for recognizes his biggest competition and getting them out ASAP. After voting Kim out a few weeks back, there was no one left in the main tribe that had a chance to beat him. Tony put himself in position with the use of alliance members and he had a good run at immunity challenges.
I thought it was the best Survivor season and I’ve watched them all. My opinion differs though in that I would have the same opinion if Natalie had won whereas most in here state that such an outcome would have ruined it for them. That’s the part I don’t get. The EoE players were always still competing in the game up until Jeff told them they had all become part of the jury after Natalie won’t the fight back challenge.

Yeah, I mean essentially we're getting 40 minutes or so to see what happens over 2-3 days, sometimes spread out over multiple camps or EOE or something.
They don't even bother showing reward challenges now for the most part.
I wish we could get a longer format, either longer episodes weekly or do multiple days like Big Brother.
I guess some seasons it would just get boring though.

I agree
I also wish they would've spread last nights episode out over the next couple of weeks. I saw no need to do a 3 hour show.
And for Tony to win the biggest Survivor ever, he had hardly any air time after being announced the winner.

Right, especially since we didn’t get to hear from any of the other players.
With all the greats that came back to give them a minute or two to reflect and their thoughts on the game and Tony even through Zoom just seemed kind of anticlimactic

I actually like the reunion shows. I wish they would've had one even with the zoom format.

A million dollars goes a long way in Jersey City, I guess.
Wait, no it doesn't.
Maybe his wife makes good money as well.
Side note, all three finalists are from the Jersey side of the NYC metro area.

Yeah that’s fair.
I didn’t really have a problem with it.
I do think that they would always have a tough time winning, especially with former winners that understand the importance of the traditional game versus maybe just wanting to to vote the person they felt more of a bond with because of their time on EOE.
And while some of the earlier jurors might feel that bond, the several voted off towards the end would feel the exact opposite imo and be less willing to vote for someone that they lasted so much longer than in the game.
So I think that potential bias is probably pretty evenly split at worst.
Nat being first out and yet making FTC was actually a pretty good story imo. She did a good job once she got back in too and was strong in her argument to the jury.
In any other season if one player didn’t stand out like Tony I would have been fine with a player with that arc winning.

Same. The discussion is usually pretty good, and with these players it would have been especially interesting to hear.
Really think CBS missed an opportunity there and not sure why. They showed everyone on Zoom at the very beginning, so I was expecting it. No reason not to include that.

Yeah, they really should have done a live reunion, even if it was over Zoom.
