Watched this last night as I'm a big sci-fy fan. Anyway, has anyone else seen this? If so, did you understand it? Looking for someone to explain it to me like I'm 5. Not really sure what happened at the end......

PS: I tried to search I am Mother using the search function and it crashed. I find that telling.

I’m trying to recall how it ended... did the machine let her back in or was she cast out permanently?

SPOILERS:

The machine tracked down the rogue human and presumably killed her. Then, the girl saved her brother and killed Mother. Unsure as to why any of that happened and it simply ended after that as if it just wrapped everything up.

Spoilers:

IIRC correctly the girl and the older woman (Swank) are clones of each other.

Mother has tried multiple times to create a human worthy of Earth and Swank wasn't/escaped.

The last girl of the movie is worthy. Swank is killed by Mother.

Someone may have to correct me.

this sounds mostly accurate. daughter proved worthy of all the tests after mother killed other children. Swank was only allowed to interact with the girl as a part of the test and Mother killed her after she outlived her usefulness.

Yeah I think it’s just a big experiment. I don’t think any of it is real.

I'd like to hear your theory on it not being real.

I don't recall any nuggets suggesting AI (Mother) hadn't either killed humans or otherwise was left behind after humans ended themselves.

What makes you think human civilization is still around conducting the experiment?

The girl never really killed mother, just the robot she knew as mother. Mother was a program that could control any of the robots. I think it speculated that mother was created to improve human’s quality of life and she decided humans were their own worst enemy and destroyed mankind. She then tried to restart by grooming the perfect human.

I haven't seen it yet but from what you guys are describing it sounds a little like the Harlan Ellison story " I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream ". Not exactly but with some similarities
