It was a pretty great book that they made into a shitty movie.

Even Herbert appreciated Lynch's effort - I'm not saying it was perfect (and studio interference, other artistic compromises, it would be a 2 or 3 picture story in today's market), but it was ambitious and visually stunning - it is certainly not the disaster some people argue it is, IMHO (and Herbert's, either).

They are remaking Highlander... Dave Bautista was cast as The Kurgan.

I agree on Excalibur... that could be pretty cool.

All Quiet on the Western Front, though maybe too dark if done right for today's movie watchers.

That's one that never needs to be touched again IMO.

I love everything about it, was captured perfectly.

Even that hat Kurt Russell wears has its own mystique.

It'd be cool to see what they could do with Legend, Short Circuit, or Beetlejuice.

how the west was won could be interesting, depending on who they get a part of the ensemble. i don't think its necessarily considered a great movie so they wouldn't be starting out behind the 8 ball.

Nominated for best picture - won best original screenplay.

You would have to get someone like Clooney attached (perhaps to direct) - someone who could get a lot of big stars to come and put in work on a period western for SAG minimums - the original film had a mega-star cast.

The Ian Fleming Bond movies. Do them in order of the books. Use all the original characters (male M, Q, Etc). And this time, follow the original story of each.

ETA: thought this was going to happen after Casino Royale. Make it to where Bond is young and fresh as an agent.

you are right, i misspoke. its not that it isn't considered a great movie; it isn't regarded as one of the great westerns of all time. its more known for it's epic scope and ensemble cast. So in that regard it wouldn't be an untouchable movie and unholy to remake. The original wasn't perfect, so there is room for improvement or improvisation.
