they just changed it to require a picture of the stub the Friday DP2 released - the wife and I both got emails about it, and had to upload - which is no big deal really.
she has been keeping track of the numbers - we have spent about 140 bucks less on the MP sub for 2 months, and a couple popcorn and drinks when compared to the number of films we have seen.
best membership deal i have signed up for lol

I've had to do the photo/stub thing about three times, but they've never asked my wife for it. I'm on iPhone and she's on Android. I'd assumed that was the difference.

quote:Well, I can see their business model. I have HBO. I have probably gone a month at times without watching it; there might not be a good movie released, and GoT isn't putting new episodes out right now. I probably don't get my money's worth out of it.

Yep. They're losing money left and right.
I never understood their business model.
They only profit if the people with their service don’t go to movies?
Same thing would apply for MoviePass, for me. For one thing, I don't go to the movies just to go, there has to be something "big", worth seeing on the big screen (as compared to seeing at home on a fairly large TV with surround sound). And I don't go alone.
And I make enough money that I initially considered signing up for this; so they would have made money on me.

The annual subscription is definitely a helluva steal. Naysayers are wringing their hands over the cash situation, but Helios & Matheson have said that they have an additional $300M in line of credit they can draw on to keep up till the subscription base hits their tipping point for profitability.

quote:if you want to go to the movies all the time alone, it is. If you go once a month, you about break even. I probably don't go to the theater more than 3-4 times a year, and when I do it's with family, and we usually want to see something the first week it comes out when we go. Isn't that restricted on MoviePass? At the very least, you have to drive up and hope there are seats available, and given that theaters are now pre-selling seats to big films, it's iffy at best.

For me, it's nowhere near a deal.

Both my wife and I have our own accounts (because that's the only option), but we haven't encountered any issues at all with seat availability. Every blockbuster movie (and half of the smaller budget ones) we've caught on the Thursday night 7:00 shows and not had an issue with seats, save Black Panther. BP we caught at 8:30.

Only restrictions currently is no special viewings like 3-D. And it’s no different than trying to get seats for a normal movie, except you can’t do it online or prepay. If you were really that worried about it you could drive there early in the day to reserve you spot
And let’s say you get a pass for you and you wife and your kids. I’m assuming that’s 4 people total. 40 bucks a month you probably wouldn’t notice at all in your budget. And I guarentee you Your number of movies to go see would rise dramatically. It would instantly be the easiest thing you could go do with your kids and spend a fraction of what it would cost per visit without MP

The best thing about MP is it totally removes the barrier of entry that has traditionally be high admission. Easily 2/3 of the films we've seen since last Labor Day have been ones that there's no way in hell we'd pay full price to see.
I've broken out the math in other MP threads, but we're down to less than $2.50 per ticket on 3 months of $9.99 and the annual subscription at $89.95.
