Morgan Spector to replace Tom Hanks in the role of Robert Langdon

For those of you who don't know the name, he plays the character of George Russell in HBO's The Gilded Age. He and Rebecca Hall are eying Netflix's adaption of Dan Brown's latest novel, The Secret of Secrets.

The casting does not mean a departure from HBO’s The Gilded Age for Spector who stars as fan favorite railroad tycoon George Russell. According to sources, he would be able to do both series with proper scheduling should Gilded Age get renewed for a fifth season. (Season 4 is expected to come out this fall.)

In The Secret of Secrets, symbologist Robert Langdon (Spector) races against ancient forces and time to rescue his girlfriend, missing scientist Katherine Solomon (Hall), and her groundbreaking manuscript whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind.

If the deals come to fruition, it will mark the first TV series acting collaboration for real-life couple Spector and Hall who have starred together in a handful of plays and movies, including the Broadway revival of Machinal, Christine and Permission.

Brown and Cuse are co-creators, and executive producers of the yet untitled The Secret of Secrets adaptation, with Cuse serving as writer and showrunner. Emma Forman of Cuse’s Genre-Arts also executive produces the project, which landed at Netflix in May 2025 with a straight-to-series order.

Filming is slated to begin this fall in Prague where the book is set.
