Did anyone else lose it during episode 3 when Steven was describing how he embraced his fiance for the first time then said "and we french kissed too".

Bottom line here is you cant let netflix whiping up hysteria via popular shows to circumvent the court system. Be mad at the jury.

The investigatory and legal processes are heavily responsible for everything that was wrong with this case. I don't know that I would blame the jury with all of the bullshite they were fed.

Jury believed confession and dna evidence. Both were flawed but jury still believed it. The whole narrative of the crime was flawed but jury believed it. Case closed.

A retrial would just be new attacks on those two things. I think at the end of the day the confession and dna evidence together would hold up again. So retrial would be giant waste of time. I am not sure you could get a jury of people in that town that are non biased. Retrial would be giant cluster.

That didn't even happen the first time. Why care about that now?

I think the toughest think about this case is the way the documentary was presented he was clearly wronged by the court system, and he should have gotten off on appeal. However, that does not mean the the is innocent of the crime. Frankly its hard for me to fathom that anyone else committed the crime, although I tend to believe his nephew is innocent.

So I'm torn between the court system being completely egregious and this man being put away in a show like trial, but also the belief that he really did it, simply because honestly who the hell else did it?

I love that any woman who shows him any interest is immediately his fiance.

Bobby Dassey is suspect AF. I wonder what kind of evidence they'd have found if they conducted a proper investigation.

The parts of the story that interest me arw:

1. Where are the lawyers and people that got Avery out of jail the first time and the lawyers that got him the big money now. They pretty much exploited the shite out of the guy then abandoned him on the second deal.

2. Why did the settlement get voided. I mean regardless of crimes he may have committed upon release, he got screwed the first time. He should have gotten that money. The settlement was for getting screwed the first time. He never got that money and may have gotten railroaded for money he never received. They should still be fighting for that money.

He lied about too much not to be a suspect, plus all the shite he had on his laptop. That's just the start of it. The more you read, the more you get the impression that he had the best opportunity to do it.

It would be interesting to see what would have been found had he been investigated at the time.

Yep. If you go down that hole, I'm not sure how you come out thinking anyone other than Bobby Dassey killed that girl.

He lied about what he was doing prior to her showing up, he lied about seeing her leave or go to Avery's trailer, he lied about what she was wearing that day, he probably lied about what he was doing that night, too.

If you mean the lawsuit against the county/city, he settled with them after he was arrested for 400k. He needed the money for his legal defense. The state paid him already also, but he spent that money. The 30 something million number was what he sued for and was always somewhat of an exaggeration. The highest pay out to an exonerated person was less than 20M, plus that guy served more time. Keep in mind that out of the 18 years Avery did, 6 years were due to weapons charges and the other crimes he committed..
