one of the best docs i've ever seen

entertaining, enjoyable, and it will show you shite that you won't see otherwise. it's a documentary about irish gypsies who defend their family honor by bare knuckle boxing. think snatch, but in real life, without the gangsters, and with family feuds

it's on netflix. it has subtitles, also (although they're not 100% accurate, b/c i don't think the irish filmaker fully understands them)

oh yeah

to egg on people to fight, and during training, the families make videos of shite-talking and send them to each other

(actual screen shot)

it's like 1980s WWF, without the cost of mean gene's secret tip line

They're still at it. shite-talking videos on Youtube.

No spoilers b/c only one of these guys was even in the doc and it's from 2014, which is a few years after the doc was released

What kind of stuff sets these feuds off normally, does it say? just trivial whatever?

Real quick. I read a great book about the bloodier feuds in Kentucky history a while back. Hatfields, blah blah. Anyway one of the most violent, long running family feuds happened when a couple members on one side went hunting. They had been out trapping without luck for days and wondered into another family's cow pasture. They were half starved so they took a machete and hacked off one of the cows arse cheeks and sent it back out to pasture This started a feud that last several generations and resulted in idk how much death and violence. Crazy shite

Anyway sorry for the hijack. made me think of that

I watched it a while back and those dudes are awesome. I think I would be more afraid of the older guys.

There's some dispute as to whether Irish Travellers/Gypsies are ethnic Gypsies or some other group. There are a lot of them in S. Carolina and they travel around running scams that usually have to do with home repair. If somebody shows up offering to resurface your driveway or put a new roof on your house for a ridiculously cheap price, they're probably Travelers.

well they won't discuss the main/primary cause of the beef, from way way back. at one point, though, they do discuss a murder

Caught the documentary a few months ago. I was surprised the filmmaker received so much access to the participants. As a rule these people are very closed and don't expose themselves to public scrutiny.

i chuckled when they contacted/begged him to film that last fight

but it seems like they aren't as hidden, at least in this respect, than their legend would have us believe

remember, the videos of the fights were big...and they even sold them (and now they're on youtube). attention whoring is strong
