So is this movie worth watching?

Absolutely. Entertaining and thought provoking. The end is quite funny.

If this all is just a hoax, to me, it is one of the most elaborate and well planned out hoaxes of all time. I mean, much of Thierry's back story checks out, but it seems nearly impossible that some guy has an art show, makes millions, and has zero artistic talent and merely uses photoshop on iconic images.

Basically this had to be all planned at least 5 years in advance and then performed to a "T" to pull off a fabrication of this size.

other than the "making millions" part (which is not verified...at all), what is so impossible?

art show? very possible if you have people paying for it
not having artistic talent? very possible
using photoshop? that's what they did, so it's possible

what? why?

the only thing that required duping the public was the art show. the rest was that group fricking around

and, it's not hard to punk the public...especially wannabe bohemians

Do you realize how many music artists there are with virtually no talent, but marketability, that become rich overnight?

On one hand, the original street art footage could very well be real, but Banksy fabricated everything after that.

On the other hand, documentaries are often shot over several years (especially the high school athletes en route to a championship ones).

You have to take into consideration that if the film wasn't brilliantly executed, we wouldn't be here discussing it now.

When did the movie come out, 2010? Regardless, Thierry's story checks out back to at least 2006 if not 2005. For example, "Life Remote Control" has had a trailor on YouTube since 2006. My point is this was an elaborate plan that took years.

Music and Art are two completely different things. Music is the flavor of the week. Most artist's work is worth nothing until they are dead.

Slow, Thierry put out his original movie in 2006. It's dated by the YouTube upload. That is when banksy took control of the project and footage and started re-editing and shooting for the doc the we now know. This is also the time that Thierry became mr brainwash. I'm saying this in terms of the doc. I dont actually believe the backstory or intent, but it's hard to deny that this hoax is at least 5 years in the making.

Just watched it for the first time.

I agree w you guys that Banksy likely had a hand in this, mainly with showing the world that "contemporary or modern art" has been so diluted that (as mentioned in another post) someone with little to no talent can become an overnight sensation.

I def don't think Brainwash is banksy, though that would be a hell of a twist. I also didn't know his other buddy was the person who created the Obama Change portrait.

My big question is how it all gets started. He just happens to stumble into the basement of his cousin's home, who in turn happens to be one of the fastest-rising street artists?
