This. They typically film each person for like 30 minutes or more. If it's not funny, it gets cut. You're getting the cream of the crop from HOURS of shooting.

There are about 8.5 million people in New York/the boroughs. Not to mention all the tourists that come through (several of which have been shown as participants).
For perspective, 3.7 million people were in the Live+3 Day rankings for their heavily promoted Live 100th Episode. That was Tru TV's most watched program in 19 months. Source
So if those watchers were all in New York City, more than have of the population still didn't see that episode.

It's not staged, though they do go through many takes and robust editing. NYC is a large and diverse city. They could probably keep this up for years.

I always assumed this is how they do the joker v joker challenges. If two of them just got nothing all day, they shoot the joker v joker tag line at the end.

Yeah I'm sure there a some People who know them but the fact that they come in tru tv helps because not many people watch that channel
