First, it caught them by surprise. Second, it was covering the whole room with a quick spread. It would have required incredibly fast reaction to realize what was happening and duck. Last, I'm not sure what in that room they could have hid behind that would stop a 7.62

Yep. An M60 probably puts out anywhere from 5-10 rounds per second. They were dead almost instantaneously. What's odd is why Walt bought so many rounds because anything past about a minute would have been overkill. Either they'd be dead already or would have managed to hit the floor safely.

I don't find it odd. Better safe than sorry when you're planning on killing them all in one attack.
