I'm considering switching from DirecTV to Dish.

Any reason I shouldn't?

More details are needed as to why you want to switch.

Well, ever since the little "An AT&T Company" showed up on my pause screen, my Genie has been slow and laggy as hell.

I've heard great things about Dish's new Hopper3 and switching would drop my bill by about $50 a month.

Well, if you're getting the same channels and comparable service.

I was a directv customer for 10+ years, switched to dish for 2 years and recently switched back to directv. Only reason I moved back was to take advantage of some deals with my AT&T phones.
Only thing I miss about Dish is the space on the DVR . We had over 350 shows/movies on that thing when I sent it back and still had space for more. Directv doesn't even come close to Dish in that regard. Reliability was about the same.
Other than that, they're about the same.

How about HD picture quality? I've heard that, supposedly, DirecTV has better picture quality. I've also heard that the Hopper3 has changed that.

Channel lineup is really close.

It's actually fewer channels, but it's the channels I want.

For example, I lose Bravo, but I get SEC Network with a smaller channel package.

If you are concerned with price, call Directv and tell them you are cancelling. they will switch you to retentions. Tell them you are going to Dish and they will hook you up with credits. My bill went up when credit rolled off. They added them back on.

It's not just price, It's also the slow/laggy performance.

Also, when I called to confirm I was no longer under contract, they offered me $50 off a month for a year, but that would put me in another 2 year contract.
