Is that supposed to be some controversial statement or something?

Well, I think folks have evolved views on it over the years, but a significant number have it as one of the greatest films of all time.

Other than the beach assault scene, I find it fairly "meh", however well acted and however much I think of the cinematography.

The Schindler story is essentially true (as is Göth's), however tweaked for the big screen and the parallel between the men (both Nazis, BTW) is striking in the context of the film.

As a director, I think there is no question his 2 best films are Raiders and Schindler's List.

I actually think too many people have swung this way with SPR.

The D-Day scene and end battle scene are standard setting achievements that define war movies and scenes. You can't take that away nearly as easily as some do.

The acting is great, and there are plenty of scenes with a lot of depth. Letting the German soldier go is one of the more powerful scenes in the movie. The sniper in the tower is another fantastic scene.

The ultimate question about how soldiers act out orders they see as wrong isn't new, but SPR does give a nuanced take on it.

For me, SPR sets the standard on war movies.
