I cut the cord last year. Between Grit, MeTV, and Antenna TV, I don't need much else.

I cut the beam from outer-space. I had the DirecTV premium package.

I rarely watched the HBO's or Showtime since GOT ended. The last movie I remember recording was Hacksaw Ridge.

I was going to do was switch to YouTube TV for the locals and sports. But, when I looked at their channel lineup, I was like "OH HELL NO, no History, Viceland, A&E or Destination channel no Youtube TV for me.

I did some research and found that History doesn't offer a stand alone app for a fee. BUT, PHILO TV has History channel. It has no locals or sports channels but it has these channels that aren't on YouTube TV: DIY, Cook, Gameshow, Paramount, Comedy, LIFE, LIFE movies, Discovery Life, A&E, FYI, HISTORY, VICE, LOGO, Science, Destination, American Heroes, Law & Crime, Discovery Family, all the Nick channels, TV Land, Hallmark, Hallmark Drama, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, CMT, BET, BET Her, MTV, MTV2, VH1, MTV Classic, UP, and AXS.

Sorry for the capital letters but I copied this out a spreadsheet I made when I started thinking about cancelling DirecTV.

But anyway, I have everything I had with DirecTV premium besides the HBO, Starz, Show, etc., PBS, NFL, ION, WGN, ELRAY, FUSION, The Weather Channel, ESPN Classic and the Longhorn Network.

I also added Smithsonian that is a pay channel on DTV.

So I basically cancelled the premium channels on DTV and now pay $70 (50 for YT & 20 for Philo) plus tax per month as opposed to $213 per month with DTV.

I always had the music channels blocked on DTV but now that I see them I realize they have pretty damn programming at times since none of them play music videos anymore.

Roku channel has a lot of free stuff and has a free live weather "channel" that looks just like the "weather channel". I watched it for a few minutes last night. I usually only watched the weather channel a couple times a year but it would have been missed. Glad I found it on Roku yesterday.

Even if you go cordless, if you have internet I would suggest getting a Roku. Free movies, TV shows, news, and weather that are just like watching cable TV.

Hell I watched a land of the Lost episode last night just to see the hot blonde that was on the show.

It's not affected by the weather either.

Some of the free movies right now:
The Terminator
Shutter Island
The Fifth Element
Training Day
The Patriot with Mel Gibson
Rules of Engagement
the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
An American Werewolf in London
City Slickers
Trouble with the Curve with Clint
Menace to Society
Police Academy
Butterfly Effect
Mars Attacks
District 9
Lean on Me
The Cable Guy
National Security
Beavis & Butthead do America
Rules of Engagement
Etc
ETC

The live weather they have is "weather Nation".

It is a free Roku channel. It has live streaming which has "Black Widow Escort" showing right now. It has a lot of VOD also.

Damn, scratch that. This is Grindhouse Grit. I just started watching and this free Grit is like a porno site. Boobies and sex in the shower and then she kills the guy.

They do have an extensive western movie section though. Including Boot Hill, Django: He who shoots first, Death Rides a Horse, Rio Lobo, Apache Blood, One Eyed Jacks,

Grit TV is awesome.

I would strongly recommend people go follow them on Twitter, they only have like four thousand followers and that's a shame.

You should get the Haystack TV app. All of my local networks have news feeds on it, including weather updates. Also ABC News stories are put on there, Newsy, and Cheddar, and some gaming news thing. It's pretty sweet to see stories making national headlines from the relevant local news stations too. Seems to have less spin when it's a "local" news story. You get to pick which news segments you want to watch and it will also serve as a screen saver if you want and post up headlines when your Roku is idle.

You can "favorite" news sources and topics so I marked all of the Alabama news stations available and then a few other special interest items. Can browse by each item you selected and add favorites easily as you go along. My wife and I love it.
