Just watched the original Star Wars (that I thought was for the gheys when I first saw it) and noticed she had a weird (and fake) accent. In the new ones, she just sounds like she's about to overdose on cocaine or heroin up her nose.

What I heard is that Carrie Fisher, bless her, had a nightmare of a time trying to do an English accent in the first movie. So much so that Lucas said to hell with it and let her do the remaining movies without it.
Being Star Wars they even explained her on again off again accent by saying she was actually mocking Tarkin.
