House of Cards Season 4, Episodes 1-4 (Spoilers through Ep. 4)

*Please no spoilers past Season 4, Episode 4 "Chapter 43"*
I figured some people will probably be watching a few episodes at a time and might want to discuss them in groups to avoid season-long spoilers.
The Atlantic is doing a "Live Binge" deal by episode if you're interested in checking it out:
Season 4, Episode 1 "Chapter 40"
Season 4, Episode 2 "Chapter 41"
Season 4, Episode 3 "Chapter 42"
Season 4, Episode 4 "Chapter 43"
This series is obviously known for it's Holy shite moments, but damn. You knew at some point Frank was going to pay for the awful arse shite he's done over time (and truth be told, I have no doubt the fallout from this will probably uncover even more shite as these kind of things always do). But damn. Given how the scene was set up you knew something was going to happen but I was still shocked as hell.
Claire has surpassed my most hated TV wife Betty Draper Francis at this point. By a lot. She has quite the nerve demanding the VP and pulling her little billboard stunt.
Neve Campbell, Cicely Tyson, and Ellen Burstyn are all super solid additions to the show thus far.
Thank God Meechum shot Lucas' awful arse. I wouldn't have been able to handle it if he lived and we would've had to watch him blubber on TV about Frank's little black book of awful deeds.
RIP Meechum

I think this is perfect because it is exactly what I have watched so far.
I guess even last season they were preparing for something like this, but I don't really like it. It's just a little absurd and is stretching my suspension of disbelief a little too far if they do actually go there, assuming Frank makes a full recovery. It's too overtly dictator, "ruling family" like to ever make any sense, especially when Claire has close to no public office experience.
And yes, RIP Meechem. He has been one of the few likable characters.

I'm up to episode 10 now, but this is a good idea.
I'm torn if I am still liking the show or not. It's certainly a hell of a lot better than season 3 that's for sure.

People still watch this crappy show?

Episode 4 had a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting that. I didn't really like 1-3. The whole fighting couple angle somehow being remotely a problem with the electorate was eye rolling stupid. The news anchor dialog was garbage up to the point the assassination attempt was reported.
I was having a tough time watching it through 1-3. 4 got better. I'm at 12 now. From 5-11 there is one clunker I had to fast forward a bit.
So far the season is better than 3, but simply too much Claire like last season.

I think the reality is Claire is always going to be a major player. It just is what it is.

Wish they followed the UK a little more with her just being in the background.

quote:Not really. I imagine you liked last season too. Didn't dislike the season but really can't say it was awesome or even close to awesome.
This season is awesome

I've enjoyed this season thus far. And quite a bit more than last season.

How Eerie is it that so much of the show mimics things that are going on now, AFTER they were done filming?

I think this season is a lot better than last season so far. I dont mind Claire, but she needs to be on Frank's side, period.
Also do you think lucas goodwin is a more tragic character than theon greyjoy?

Through episode 5, enjoying it so far. Don't get in Doug's bad side.
