Has Merpeople on Netflix been discussed?

I don't know why this was reccomended to me on netflix but my wife and I just binged all 4 episodes. Can't tell if the folks making this are super serious about mermaids or if it's a comedy.
They have a bunch of different subcultures of merpeople and they all thing they're super important. Afro merpeople, fat merpeople, etc. This shite is almost as good a furries.
