re: Gosling: It's not the audience's job to save theaters, we have to make better movies

The economics of the movie theater no longer work for casual movie going. I remember in the 80's-90's our friend group would randomly decide to go see a movie on a random day look at the paper to see what was playing and at what time and randomly go see something. Going to a movie was cheap enough we would throw $4-5 at a movie we knew nothing about. Casual movie going has been replaced with streaming. Mid to low budget movies that used to show up at the theater are now showing up on streaming. All these giant 13-14 movie complexes are now outdated when the modern theater really needs to be 1-2 IMAX quality screens and maybe 3-4 good quality regular sized theaters.
