I watched it back around 2018 and don’t remember much about it other than I loved it

Is this yet another "LCpl Bagofdoughnuts is a military genius and every officer is clueless" movie?
it's a TV show based on a book that was written by a liberal Rolling Stone author who spent the majority of his time with 1st Recon riding around and hanging out with lance corporals. with that in mind, it's forgivable that the book and the follow-on tv show are heavily skewed to that perspective (enlisted "blue-collar working man" against the officers - it's stupid, but whatever).
the big problem i have with it is that they make the bad officers so buffoonishly over the top stupid. Encino Man is barely literate. Captain America is a complete psychopath.
the other problem i have is that Nate Fick is a completely self-serving, self promoting douchebag who clearly had a part in making himself seem like the only good officer in the entire battalion. he later wrote a book proclaiming his greatness at Marine officership.

With the additional bit of context is that these were Recon Marines, not normal line infantry. Big egos on the enlisted side comes with the territory as well.
And if I remember correctly, almost all of the company had deployed to Afghanistan prior to the initial OIF invasion. They were experienced and knew what they were seeing and experiencing more than the average boot or even junior officer right out of IOC.
While some of the portrayals were cartoonish, I am hesitant to completely dismiss them out of hand (and I was an officer). I ran across a few company and field grade officers both in Army and Marine infantry units that I wouldn't trust to operate my manual screwdriver correctly.

he does try to call it in, with the not-so-subtle message being that he's doing it for credit, but right before that he literally doesnt know what "danger close" means, and everyone has a good chuckle at what a dummy he is. it's preposterous.
That’s right forgot that detail.

As a show it’s pretty crazy the number of actors got their start (or close to it) on GK. GK alumni are seen all over the place especially HBO series.
