Lebeef killed it. I loved the tank scenes when he was firing the shells and looking through the scope.

Spoilers:

A little predictable ending ala SPR, with the newbie surviving, but overall very good movie. Can't imagine being thrown into that war, made me appreciate that aspect of the war as tanks are often overlooked

Thought it was a good film.

Sound Mixing/Sound Editing was incredible. So many things layered on top of each other. Will be surprised if no noms there.

Logan Lerman was the stand out IMO. There were a couple scenes I was very impressed by him. However, the rest of the cast was very solid. Shia/Brad/John Bernthal all were good. Although I think he's a good actor and I'm a fan, Michael Pena's character was maybe a little out of place for me.

One or two scenes that were a little cheesy/cliche, but those are really my only complaints.

^I totally agree with all this ^

The Peña thing is spot on. I think he's a really good actor in the right role. He was tremendous in end of watch. But this role and move just didn't seem to fit him. He was the noticeable weak link in the cast.

And not that he, himself, was weak, or poorly cast. Just that there shouldn't have been a Mexican on that tank. It was weird.

he whole getting into character thing can be overrated (not saying it was in this case, just in general). Like, when people gain/lose huge amounts of weight, spend months in unusual locations with unsavory people, shut themselves up in a room for weeks, or whatever, to prepare for a role. You still have to act. Effort alone doesn't make a good performance.

What would Blade have been had Wesley Snipes not practiced the Method and stayed in character on set?

I'll just leave you to ponder that.

I even italicized it in the post you quoted.
