These are only based on my observations from a couple decades of watching Netflix, Prime, HBO and more recently AppleTV domestic & foreign TV series and films. Feel free to add your own. I sometimes think there's only one writer creating all these shows, and he just keeps using the same things over and over again.

1. Someone throws up--95%
2. Shower scene--90%
3. Gay/lesbian relationship--90%
4. Character hospitalized for illness or injury--80%
5. Chase scene--65%
6. Divorced cop/detective with drug/alcohol habit--50%
7. Cop/detective accused of crime but eventually clears his/her name--45%
8. Bratty teen alienated from parent(s) but eventually reconciles--40%
9. Someone using the bathroom--40%
10. Cop that turns out to be the killer/rapist/drug dealer--35%

from a couple decades

Plot elements have been repeating for alot longer than that. 90% puking ain't one of them.
