When asked about news reports claiming the next POTA will reboot the franchise:

Young people should be exposed to the 1968 original around the same time they're shown Star Wars. It holds up mostly and is an amazing film.

And we’re at the point now that they have the ability to create the ape civilization from the novel. No clay huts, an actual metropolis.

They set up the missing astronauts in the first Andy Serkis film. Perfect point to jump forward.
