It lost steam toward the end and felt overly drawn-out.
I felt it was drawn out in the beginning and took a little while to come together. I really didn't like any of the characters but by about episode 3 or 4 I was all in and loved the Akram character, then Rose and finally came around to liking DCI Morck. It really is well done.

Now I want more and I'm interested in watching the Danish movie series.

alajones2 and I just wrapped this up. We liked it a lot. Morck was just the right amount of annoying but kind of awesome, Akram (who clearly worked for the Syrian Gestapo) was insanely interesting. The main police chief lady was pretty much useless. I also got to where I really didn’t like Merritt that much.

Anyway, it was a really well done and well cast show. The writers did a good job of showing us other dynamics without it being boring or completely pointless. I do wish they’d concluded the B plot.

Is Broadchurch as good as this? I’ve always intended to watch it.

Police thriller set in Scotland, essentially an English language remake of a Danish show. 9 episodes.

Just finished this series. I enjoyed it. The opening scene grabs you pretty good to stick around for the stuff that drags on. Character development took a bit but they get likeable as the series moves along. Akram in likeable from the get go.

Glad the main crime was tidied up at the end. I would not have enjoyed it otherwise because of how demented(over the top but still worked) it was. Even though it was the last 2 episodes where everything was coming together it got really intense but that even felt like it was dragging on; I guess that was part of the tension. Thankfully watched with the wife so we were able to fill in each other who was who in Merritt's family/ relations which we didn't remember while watching.

I can see where the opening crime remains a backdrop while they investigate another case in season 2.

I thought Dept Q was going to be much like detective savants like Van der Valk with a broader international European scope but turned out to be a band of Scotland detective misfits which eventually came together as a team to solve a cold case; it worked for an entertaining series.
