My response to that would be a quote from Milch from the special features:
I would take 3 transcendent seasons of Deadwood without a true finale than almost anything else.

Deadwood does conclude. I never understand the argument that it doesn't have any ending. The ending may not be satisfactory because we all want more blood to be spilled, but given the somewhat true historical context, they couldn't spill more blood.
The ending was rushed but it was an ending nonetheless. The only beef I have with season 3 was the terrible acting troupe and the disappearance of Doc Cochran.
Finished season 1 earlier today and I am off and running on season 2.
