interesting premise and well acted, but it lost me towards the end of season 1.

Looking back, season 1 spent a lot of time explaining the rules and boundaries between the two worlds, and (IMO) too much time on the respective bureaucracies. Sort of like reading the NFL rule book while watching a football game.
With that out of the way, season 2 was much better. No spoilers, but I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I second this. I would have liked for more seasons but I'm satisfied with the conclusion we got. JK did such a good job as the Howards.
