Terrence Malick already did this 19 years ago with Thin Red Line. I doubt this movie will be better.

Malick is one of Nolan's biggest inspirations. I think his reasoning is to make Thin Red Line ripoff/remake and 90% of the public will not be the wiser.

I could also see Dunkirk being very much like The Revenant. A little character development combined with extreme visuals and very little dialogue.

I will though be in the theater the day this movie comes out.

According to Nolan, his biggest inspirations for this movie were Intolerance, Sunrise, Greed, and The Wages of Fear.

This board will slobber Nolan's knob no matter how mediocre the movie is.

If he ever makes a mediocre movie, I guess we'll find out.

We are finally getting a big budget war film that doesn't involve the United States in the story and that discusses one of the most overlooked moments of the war with the evac at Dunkirk. I really hope it works out.

Nolan's films usually have an element of time, or switching back in different timelines. I like it.

The idea is to show the human experience of a battle, not to make you cry cause Jim won't get back to his sweetheart. We already understand what is at stake when young men go to war.

Like in The Phantom Menace where the end was divided into 4 side stories (Gungan battle, Anakin and the starships, Maul vs Jedi, Padme sneaking into the palace).

That was one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2006, and my personal #1 from that year, and it included zero character development.

That was it's problem. You could tell the producers didn't want to give the passengers any negative qualities. Not even something as minor as getting upset that someone stepped on their toe.
