"Avatar" couldn't entice me. "The Muppets" would have except that it's not 3D. This is Scorcese... this deserves a look. Wish it were on the Imax screen but I'll take it.

Might as well. You can pretty much know in one 3d movie of you'll like it or not. It's Scorsese so it won't be a cheap 3d. It's not for me at all. I kind of hate it; gives me a headache.

My first was Toy Story 3... I was in line at the concession stand at a matinee and there was a mom with her kid in front of me. The mom says "I don't really like 3D... I can't stand it coming on my face."

I fight back laughter.

Then the kid says "I love when it comes on my face!"

I excuse myself from line.

OK, I'm back. I was afraid of a headache, too, but it was never a problem. RealD 3D. I don't think it would be much of a problem for anybody, actually.

I'll say this about the 3D... it was never gratuitous as in hey, look, it's a 3D shot sticking something at you to make you go OOOOH. It provided a lot of depth, was immersive, and so well blended that at most times you didn't even think about it. There was one instance, though, where Sasha Cohen's big head sticks out of the screen at you but it added immensely to the impact of the scene.

As for the movie, itself... nice story if not totally credible, but it was an homage to really old silent movies and especially to George Melies, a pioneer in filmmaking and special effects. The whole affair was very reverential and sweet.

Very good movie if not a great one. Recommended.

Saw the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" in 3-D years ago.

I say great movie. 3 d really added to film, especially as an homage to what the movie was about.
