Bates Motel - episode from 4/29 question...?

First of all, do we have a Bate Motel season long thread? I searched before starting this but there are tons of Bates threads...
Anyway my question is:
When the sheriff came to the Bates residence after the shoot out with the bad cop and took the brother's pistol etc, why did they have a sit down discussion with the cop telling norman, norma, and brother the "story they would go with". What was that all about? Why didnt the cop arrest brother or investigate the shooting?

Because the cop wants to keep the feds out of his town. Plus, he got to look like a hero instead of a moron for having this "bad" cop under his watch.

Yeah you know he's in on some stuff.
I feel bad for Dylan. He's the only normal one, he saves the day, doesn't get any credit and not even a thank you from Norma.
The ending to the newest episode was pretty awesome.
Typically just been episode threads that get like 10-15 responses each.

Because "he" took care of it all. He had a bad cop who he's blaming it all on. Instead of sex trafficking, best friend of sheriff raping Norma, cop helping Norma and banging her, etc. Instead sheriff wraps it up in a nice bow that 1 bad guy went crazy. No feds need to come and see what's really going on.

Same reason he created the story; he knows what the frick is going on haha, he is likely the ringleader. Sex trafficking happening right under his nose? Nah, he's in on it.

He's the normal one? He's killed two people and guards a pot farm for a living. There are no "normal" people on this show
