Is anyone using the Plex channel on Roku to stream movies or music? If so how do you like it?

I've looked into Plex as an eventual replacement for my SageTV setup in a couple years, but so far I'm not convinced it'll do everything I need. I'll be watching this thread. Hoping to see some good replies.

What is this? I have a Roku and haven't heard of it.

Take a look at the MyMedia and Roksbox apps.Your media can reside on your computer's hard drive, on an external drive, on a network attached storage (NAS) device located on your home or local area network.

Plex is a software package that basically acts as a media server. It allows you to store your files in a central location, and have your set top boxes (Roku, Google TV, LG, etc.) connect to it to display the files on your TV. It also handles streaming of internet content.
It does not do live TV or have DVR functions, however. Although, there may be plugins that add that functionality.

I might check this out tonight. Hopefully it works better than PS3mediaserver and can play hd without stuttering.

you should be using at least a 1GBps link for smooth HD. if you are doing that and you still have stuttering issues, then yea, it may be that the software sucks

I've read up on other forums and other people have the same issue. I think it was something to do with the ps3 itself that causes it.

So where does this thing pull movies from? I've got The Road, Mystic River, and the Beavis and Butthead movie showing up in my library and I've never downloaded those.

I do and it is by far the best media streaming solution I've ever used.
I've been using ps3media server on two ps3s and an xboz for the past few years. It's great for high quality video and audio but Plex on Roku wins hands down on ease of use.
It has played everything I've thrown at it and it is on Wifi on a separate floor from where my router and server are.
I would highly recommend it. I still use ps3 and PMS in my theater room when I want to watch a movie with surround sound. But when I'm watching shows, I def go to my Roku.
