In case you hadn't heard, it's the second remake of the 1974 classic and this time the film goes after the patriarchy.

Here's the movie's description:

quote:

Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. One by one, sorority girls on campus are being killed by a stalker. But the killer is about to discover that this generation's women aren't willing to become hapless victims as they fight back.

Here's the trailer:

And here's a review of the film from my favorite YouTube critic:

Jeremy Jahns

Some classic quotes from the review:

"It isn't a movie with a social message attached to it, it's a social message with a movie attached to it."

"This movie has got to be the preachiest preachy movie I've ever seen preached to me."

"At best you're going to feel like you got unwittingly dragged to a march while hanging out with your friends...at worst you're going to feel like this movie is clubbing you over the head with its point so much that it feels like a fricking Quan Chi fatality."

"Black Christmas is masquerading as something deeper and with all the subtlety of a chainsaw. It tries."

And here's a picture of the film's director:

Should have been main fatality in X. Or at least included.

Caught a free advance screening of it. It's complete garbage. The SJW crap is so in your face that it totally destroys the movie.

I was against it just because it was a PG-13 slasher remake. Now that the reviews are out and they all sound like the one in the OP, yeahhh frick that movie

When in doubt, Cary Elwes is the killer .... always.

And holy crap, I just read the full plot summary on Wikipedia and it's even worst than I thought.

It's worse than it sounds in that article.

No. This is a micro budget indie horror. Made for $5 mil, and will likely only make $5. It's had very little advertising presence. It's getting bad reviews from everyone, but just YouTube weirdos. It's not a movie this board typically would care about or see. So why care about it now, except to let everyone know that a movie very few people here will see has an ideology you don't share?

If it does suck, and I am more than willing to believe it does, that's a bummer. Sophia Takal is a talented actress who's directed a good movie before. I like both previous Black Christmas versions, though both are more than flawed.

Again, this movie does probably suck, but referring to the slasher formula as "truth" is the most dumdumshit I've read today.

Formulas like this don't resonate because of truth; they offer uncomplicated escapism. Slashers rely on you finding murder entertaining on some level. It's easier to murder thinly written, stock bad kids and keep your audience's sympathies than it would murdering complicated characters. And slashers that take the time to flesh out characters, or just buck the formula in general, absolutely can work. Consider that the American slasher grew out of American success of Italian giallo films, which rarely shared the virgin virtues of the American slasher.

And virgins don't survive murder attempts because of virginity. They get murdered like everybody else.

Anyone notice that Clint Eastwood's Richard Jewel is listed 3rd w/ no pic on MRQE? that spot is usually reserved for no name stuff, and i can't imagine they couldn't get a movie poster.

Only if there are tits out .

While I'm tired of all the movies where the woman runs from the masked killer and trips or twist her ankle, I've also seen enough of the turn the tables on the killer trope as well.

Especially the ones where the killers are all old white men and the catch phrase for the damsels in undress is "you messed with the wrong sista girls buddy!"

Lulz ..... yeah, I'll pass too.
